Gross is not a bank deposit
A net payment is what remains after the paystub’s deductions and adjustments. LinePaycheck’s expected wages are not a prediction of that take-home amount. Use the current-period gross figure, and confirm what it includes.
In Review paystub → What does gross include?, select wages only when that gross excludes per diem. Select wages and per diem only when the displayed gross actually includes the allowance represented in your ledger. Do not add per diem to a figure that already includes it.
If you cannot establish the basis, leave it unconfirmed and save a not-comparable record. The app does not decide the tax treatment of your allowance.
Full-rate buckets versus premium-only lines
Expand How earnings lines are reported and choose Earnings layout based on the paystub—not whichever option makes the numbers match.
The same synthetic ten-hour shift at a $50 base rate, with two hours at 1.5×, can be presented in two ways:
| Layout | Base or regular line | Overtime line | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full-rate buckets | 8 h × $50 = $400 | 2 h × $75 = $150 | $550 |
| Base plus premium | All 10 h × $50 = $500 | 2 h × the extra $25 = $50 | $550 |
Comparing a $150 full-rate expected line directly with a $50 premium-only line would suggest a difference that the reporting layout explains. Confirm the paystub’s categorization before interpreting component differences.
Actual hours versus paid equivalents
Under Hours mean, confirm whether the paystub shows actual worked hours or paid-equivalent hours that can include guarantees. These are not interchangeable.
A short callout can have fewer clock hours than paid minimum hours. Keep the actual work record unchanged; use the paystub layout settings to describe the way its hours and earnings are presented.
Where the callout guarantee appears
Under Callout guarantee, confirm whether the top-up is a separate line or included in hourly lines. An unknown mapping can prevent reliable line-level comparison even when the overall wage total is comparable.
Entering a separate callout amount while choosing a layout that already includes it in hourly lines can create a conflict. Review the source rather than counting the same entitlement twice.
When to leave mapping incomplete
Unusual multipliers beyond the supported 1×, 1.5×, and 2× hourly buckets, mixed reporting conventions, adjustments, or other unmapped earnings may require review. Mark Other pay lines or rules remain unmapped instead of forcing an approximation.
A gross comparison and a confirmed-line comparison answer different questions. Neither is a complete contractual or tax audit. Read supported rules and limits when the source does not fit the available settings.
